The Brave New World!
In an editorial in the current issue of the UKSG e-news, Steve Sharp (University of Leeds) concludes: "I think 2013 will be a much more ‘open’ year. More libraries will be trialling or adopting more open purchasing models, such as patron-driven acquisition of e-books. Data will have to become more open. More research outputs will become available on open access. We just need to ensure that we keep our minds open so that we can embrace the challenges of this new world!"
This "brave new world" offers new opportunities for subscription agents and intermediaries to do what we do best: facilitate transfer of knowledge to a growing global audience and help sustain the knowledge economy. We not only provide for transactions between publishers and libraries, but offer a multitude of services including knowledge aggregation, discovery, distribution, sales, and marketing, and the technologies to do so efficiently and effectively.
